Cheep Cheep

So as you can see, we have taken on a whole new adventure:) Meet our new little ladies!! The boys, especially John have had such a wonderful time this past week learning about these little ones. We currently have six chicks and they are all doing really well! I have to admit, the first couple days I didn't get much sleep and was completely unaware of the normal behavior of 2 day old chicks. They were hilarious to say the least. I had to basically be checking on them every hour or so to make sure they were learning how to eat, drink, monitor the temperature and heat lamp make sure they didn't climb completely into the feeder and get stuck. Of course the first night, I freaked out numerous times because they kept flopping over and closing their eyes...I would sort of nudge them and they would hop up chirping wildly! I quickly learned that they were just falling asleep. Alan got a pretty good kick out of me.

How does one choose? We went to a local Farm/Feed store in town to pick them out. I had decided which breeds we wanted to try and John got to pick out one of each! He was a bit unsure at first and then the lady eased him into it and then we was more confident.

She showed us how to hold them and was so nice and helpful for us rookies!

This was by far John's favorite moment.

This was Eli's first glance, we was pretty awstruck. He was pretty gentle, but really just so wide eyed.
We had the "talk" about kissing them and how to make sure we give them space and be gentle because they are only a couple days old. .......we will see...... Eli was going in for the kiss here...I tried to avoid it, but it was unavoidable....
There is a new saying in our house..."don't lick the chicks"
As for now our fluff balls are so precious, the sweet cheeping is music to our ears, the behavior like a soap opera and the smell minimal...for now, we have completly fallen in love.... We will keep you posted.....

OH look at you! I am so insanely jealous, I have wanted chickens ever since Saben was born, but Kyle is reluctant to say the least. I guess we don't have quite the yard you do. And 1700 sq foot garden, oh man....to die for, seriously. I hope you keep this up, it is so fun to see what you are up to! The boys are adorable!
